Savior of the World Testimonies

From time to time we will offer the testimony of cast members and those who have experienced this production.  It is our prayer that the words and feelings of those offering their testimony will linger in your heart and touch your spirit and testify of the Lord Jesus Christ and His work upon this earth.

"During and leading up to this production, I have had sweet and special experiences where I have felt the love, kindness, and compassion of our Lord, Jesus Christ.  I know that He not only lives, but He is coming again; and this time, He is coming in power and great glory.  I bear my personal witness that this is true. "  Jeremy Bowman

"Some of my thoughts:
The depth, breadth, and magnitude of how this production has impacted my testimony of the divinity, power, and compassion of Jesus Christ, cannot be adequately expressed in words.  I have been fed and I have been led by the Holy Spirit every step along the way. My family has been blessed though their sacrifice. My heart is full and my burdens are light. I am a better man, husband, father, friend, and priesthood holder than I was four months ago. My ever-so-small sacrifice to be an even smaller part of this beautiful work was more than worth it. I am truly a “witness” of the Lord using us, his agents, to do His work in magnificent ways. Heartfelt thanks to all who helped to make it what it is!"  Br. Kenn Lewis

Savior of the World Production

The Louisville Kentucky Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is announcing the production of “Savior of the World” which will be offered free of charge for adults and children eight years of age and older on November 20, and 21.  The show begins at 7pm and guests are asked to be in their seats by 6:50pm.  This play was first shown in Salt Lake City November 28-December 30 of 2000.

The “Savior of the World” is a production that focuses on two important periods of Jesus Christ’s life: His birth and resurrection.  The play opens with Elisabeth and Zacharias discussing her lack of children while her cousin Mary is about to be betrothed.  While in the Temple Zacharias learns from the Angel Gabriel that his wife will bear a son to be named John, and that he will prepare the way for Jesus Christ.

This bit of drama is interposed with the period immediately before, during and after the betrothal of Mary to Joseph, her miraculous conception and the struggle of Joseph upon hearing that she was with child before their marriage.  Both Mary and Joseph received angelic ministrations that foretold the birth of the Savior.  Joseph’s vision was the answer to his prayer regarding the law and his love of Mary.

The first act concludes with the birth of the Savior Jesus Christ in the manger.  The shepherds encounter the Christ child and recite the words of the Angel announcing Christ’s birth.

The second act begins with the burial of the Lord Jesus Christ and the sealing of the tomb.  At this time the apostles and disciples, while having heard Jesus mention many times about His death and resurrection, were not entirely understanding of what would soon happen.  Jesus reveals Himself first to Mary Magdalene, who at first did not recognize His voice.  She is instructed to go and tell the apostles that He has risen.

The production wonderfully portrays that singular, unique event very well.  The individuals are confused regarding the resurrection but each comes to their own belief and testimony through the visitations of the risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Thomas, the doubting apostle, is shown as he struggles to believe and understand the resurrection.  While he was slow to believe, the Lord’s mercy is shown when He reveals himself specifically to Thomas, inviting him to come closer and to feel the prints in His hands and feet, and to thrust his hands into His side.

The play concludes with a scene of the apostles fishing and the resurrected Jesus Christ showing Himself unto them with the supplication to “Feed my sheep”.  In keeping with this supplication The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is making this production available to all who would like to attend.  Admission is free for adults and children eight years and older.

This production was designed to feed the spirits of those who attend.  The lighting, soundtracks, costumes, and set designs were done with attention to detail.  All of the costumes and stage-settings were hand-designed and created by the lay production staff.

The Savior of the World: Production Notes and History

Much time and energy has been devoted to making this production a success, by many ordinary individuals, not necessarily any particular acting skill, or any vocal talent, but all have become involved in this production because of their testimony of the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and their desire to share their testimony through this production.

According to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint's website, the production is described as follows: "The original production was prepared for the inauguration of the Church's Conference Center Theater in Salt Lake City, Utah, as a testimony of the Savior on the second millennial anniversary of His birth. As a scripturally based depiction of events surrounding the birth and resurrection of the Savior, this presentation can be useful in building testimonies, strengthening friendships, and sharing the gospel with those of other faiths.
"

This production focuses on only two elements of Christ's life, his birth and resurrection.  That Christ was entered this world in a mortal body, after being conceived and carried by a virgin, is a well recognized fact among Christian-based religions throughout the world.  His death and subsequent burial, and resurrection, are equally cherished parts of the Christian belief.  This production will attempt to expound on these cherished events and hope to impart a special spirit to all who attend, a spirit which will linger in their hearts and minds as they leave the production.

A recording (vocals and orchestra) of the original production in Salt Lake City can be purchased directly from the LDS Church for a nominal fee of $11.00.

Photos and follow-up information will be published after the first performance.
